The “Dog Days of Summer”

September 10, 2009

It’s been a fairly temperate summer in the Lowcountry, with some going as far as calling it mild. But now we’ve entered into the “Dog Days of Summer”, named by the Greeks after the “Dog Star”, the brightest star besides the sun. It’s the time of year that the Dog Star rises, bringing with it the hottest temperatures of the year. But so far, so good here on Daniel Island! The humidity has been low, the temperatures are cooling and the weather has been amazing.

Still, in celebration of the “Dog Days of Summer”, My Island Town asked island photographer (and pet lover) Cheryl Provost to put together a photo gallery of island dogs. About 5 years ago, Cheryl decided to merge her two favorite things – a love of photography and a love of animals. She studied through the New York Institute of Photography, and started a career as a photographer, doing portraits, weddings, events and more. But her real passion lies in pet photography. And since her move to Daniel Island, she’s been busy photographing island dogs, cats and birds – even alligators!

Check out the gallery below. Do you have some good pictures of island pets? Send them to My Island Town! We’d love to add them to the gallery. Just email Contact@Myislandtown.com and we’ll post them.

Feel free to contact Cheryl if you’re interested in having your pet photographed!
